How I Combat My Oily Skin

How I Combat My Oily Skin

I have struggled to combat my oily skin since my teenage years, and although I still do suffer from an oily complexion I have learnt some tips along the way to keep the oil at bay. With the use of a simple yet effective skincare regime and a number of makeup products, I have managed to reduce the shine in my face for longer, without the need of constantly powdering every 5 minutes.

Growing up through my teens I never really had a skincare routine. I would simply remove my makeup with a makeup wipe and that would be it. As I’m getting older I’ve realised that makeup wipes do half a job (if that) and that if I want to look after my skin then I need to pay more attention.

Here is what I use on a daily basis as my morning skincare routine…

EVE LOM Cleanser with Muslin Cloth*

I first tried this when it came in my September Beauty Box, and I was so excited to try it out after all of the amazing reviews I had read. After using this every morning I noticed a difference in my skin in just a few days… It was brighter, refreshed and softer. Using this product is a great way to wake your skin up in the morning and prepare it for the day.

Elemis Balancing Lavender Toner*

Once my skin has been cleansed I then move onto my Elemis Toner. I spray this toner directly onto my face, it helps to sooth and brighten up my complexion. The smell of this product is heavenly and I find it works well with my oily skin.

Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion *

This lightweight oil-free moisturiser is fantastic for anyone who struggles with combination/oily skin, as it is a gel lotion I find that it soaks in beautifully into my skin and gives me a great base for my make up. Also, a 125ml bottle lasts me almost a year so it is definitely worth the investment.

Followed by…

Mac Prep + Prime Skin *

Using this primer helps my foundation stay put all day, it also enables my foundation to glide on my skin with ease. This primer has a shimmer within which gives me a subtle glow and generally improves the texture of my skin.

Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation & Concealer *

My go-to foundation, and one that I always seem to go back to. This foundation is great for my oily skin, stays in place all day and gives me a great medium-full coverage. I speak more about this product in this post.

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder *

This inexpensive face powder keeps my shine at bay for hours on end, it is a product that has been in my make up bag for years. I love how this product mattifies my skin without giving it a cakey look or feel.

Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray *

Once my base is complete, I will then use the Urban Decay setting spray to secure everything. I don’t think I could live without this product, I find it absolutely brilliant. It keeps my make up in place, my skin remains looking fresh, and it even controls my shine in the heat. If you are finding difficulties in keeping your make up in place for hours on end then give this a whirl.

I love toners, I think they make such a difference with my oily skin. I really need to get into setting sprays more though so I’ll have to try that one!
